Spiritual Parenting

I affectionately call them the #6pack. I am speaking of my 6 …yes 6 beautiful children.  Mark (25), Nissi (23), Tamani (21), Leah (17), Michael (almost 13) and Solomon (2)..whew that took a long time to type out LOL! I wouldn’t trade them for the world! I am honored to be their mother and see myself as a joyful mother of children. I love being a mom and having six children is a huge blessing. I think some would be overwhelmed with 6 children but I’m not…I have been graced to do this.

I often have to shift gears within 5 minutes to adjust to their individual needs. I can go from potty training the two year old to helping the older ones navigate through adulthood challenges then talk about how to be a man of integrity to my almost 13 year old. A lot happens in my home (and phone) and I LOVE IT!

One thing is certain…I am very clear that beyond being a gift from God, I play a role in helping them fulfill their Kingdom purpose. That’s spiritual parenting.

Behold, children are a heritage and gift from the LORD, The fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth ~ Psalms 127:3-4

The psalmist refers to children as arrows in the hand of a warrior. I absolutely see my children this way. And yes, I am clear that I am a warrior (He made me this way). They are arrows in God’s hands,  aimed at doing a specific work and that’s why He created them. As their mother, I am expected to prepare them (sharpen them) and send them to walk out God’s purpose for their lives. They are destined to soar.

Here are some practical things I do for my children:

Pray the Word over them

I literally  insert their individual names into scriptures. For example Psalms 1. “Blessed is Mark that walketh not in the counsel on the ungodly… nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But Nissi’s delight is in the law of the Lord and in his law does Tamani meditate both day and night. For Leah and Michael shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that bringeth forth fruit in his season… And whatsoever Solomon does shall prosper.  It is simple but powerful. Remember when you speak the word of God He watches over that word and He will make sure that it comes to pass (Jeremiah 1:12).

Prophecy over them/Share what God tells you to share

I listen to Holy Spirit when He says to share warnings, encouragement, future events, and corrections. Other times I hear something and just pray. God does not want us to raise our children without His help. Ask Him because He still speaks! I also prophecy godly success over them.

Talk about what’s in your bloodline

I don’t know about you but I have some junk in my bloodline (family history)  that I want to end with my generation. I’m referring to generational curses. There are just some things that I seriously don’t want my children to carryon. The Lord pressed me to talk to my children about it so I did. I’ve done my part by repenting and breaking the curses but my children will have to obey God for themselves. We talked about the pain and difficulties that come from divorce, single parenting, poverty, etc. And, they don’t want it. They know that obedience  is the key.

Have I done everything right?…absolutely not! Do I repent?…yep!  And I get up and do better the next time.

Prayer: Father, thank you for the privilege of being parents. Guide us in how to parent our children so that they are might arrows in Your hand. May they walk according to your Word and fulfill Your purpose for their lives. We declare that no weapon formed against them will prosper. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
